The following are notes I took at this past CPC Instructional Forum on 18 Feb 2008.

Lighting techniques using the 1-2-3 Posing Techniques for females and 1-2-2 for males.

« Body Spacing at 45°
« Face at 20° (female), Face at the camera (males)
« Eyes at the camera

Equipment

Technique
Jerry was shooting f/8 at 1/80th sec, focal length ~ 50. Normally you shoot f/5-6, and want to blur background.

Hair light used for skimming across the hair to enhance look. Rim light for skimming shoulders or shining across a black hat or black hair to distinguish itself from the background.

Did anyone see or photograph the lunar eclipse we had the other night this week? We won't have another one in this area until 2010.

Because of certain atmosphere we were passing through between us and the moon, it appeared blood red, yellow, and orange at times.

I'll check on the deals for you. What are you shooting now? I recently got a 400D for around $500 which I combined rebates, special pricing, and percent off.

If you make them bold, I think you should just make all the categories with a single color background then. People tend to look at the highlighted items and the alternating yellow/dark yellow gets kind of confusing and somewhat stresses the eyes.

Let's add this to a TO DO list in the future. In the meantime, perhaps the main categories can be bold. The entire look will be enhanced at some point with colorful icons instead of text links, etc. I need to add more categories to the shopping area right now. First thing I notice is there's no section on lighting.

Hmm, lightroom presets ... sounds promising. Of course they would have them being cousins to Photoshop. I shall investigate. The histogram has always been a little daunting.

The forum categories alternate from dark to light yellow, and the subcategories seem to be indented (which is good). But the alternating colors make it confusing. Is there any way to have the main categories one color and the subcategories the other color?

Lightroom has a lot of presets that you can download from other web sites. Google "lightroom presets" and just download and install all you get. You'll find a ton of neat effects you may end up using a lot.

Use your curve to also help introduce contrast. Up the highlights and darken the shadows.

I have tried the past couple of months to figure out how to enhance monochromatic prints without blowing out highlights, etc. Is there a good plugin that can assist?

From the guest judge last night, Frank Gibson, he mentioned dialing back the midtones and bumping up the contrast. Does anyone else have a trick to really bringing out subjects in black and white? Gray photographs are not all that appealing.

Welcome Cherokee Photography Club! This was designed with you in mind ... a place to share your passion of photography and to broadcast all of the hot electronic deals I come across that people were interested in at the Photo Shootout.

I have worked hard this past month to bring all who stop by a place whereby photographers alike can share in the FotoGeek community with their ideas, experience, and most of all questions. We all have to start somewhere. Hopefully this site will grow as time goes on. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, and register an account so that other members can reach you. Make sure you take our poll up above or create your own in one of our many forums.

Thanks and become a Geeker today. Don't shoot to live ... Live to Shoot!
